I've recently found out about final ik and it's currently looking like a perfect solution to what I'm trying to achieve. The only thing I wish to know is if it's suitable for use in many (around 50) gameobjects at the same time, or what kind of performance impact it has. Would it be possible to use final ik for this many gameobjects without causing fps lag?

That depends, what kind of IK procedures would you need exactly on all those characters?
